The Role of Religion in Politics and the Role of Politics in Religion
By Rabbi Meir SoloveichikThe Hebrew Bible echoes throughout American history. What role should it have in the America’s public life today?
This panel discussion, convened on February 6, 2020, is a discussion of Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land: The Hebrew Bible in the United States, a book Rabbi Soloveichik co-edited, which seeks to show through primary sources in American history that one cannot understand the American political tradition without understanding America’s relationship with the Hebrew Bible.
Along with Rabbi Soloveichik, speakers in this panel include the American historian Wilfred McClay and Montse Alvarado, the vice president and executive director at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. Along with the book, their conversation centers on the role that the Bible has, can have, and should have in American public life.
