Born into a Catholic family in a German-speaking village in southwestern Romania, Herta Müller won the Nobel Prize for her poetry and novels in 2009. Last month, Müller delivered a speech about the October 7 massacres, the Gaza war, and the escalation of anti-Semitism in which she displayed a moral clarity rarely heard from Europeans these days.
