A Kibbutz’s Children’s Megillah

Created by David Ben-Gurion’s nephew.

When Purim begins this evening, most of the world’s Jews won’t have to worry about secret-police operatives spying on their merrymaking, but they will need copies of the book of Esther (also known as “the megillah”) to read in synagogue and at home. Yael Engel tells the story of a printed edition that contains the artwork of Israeli children, and which speaks to how cherished the holiday is even for the most “secular” Israelis.
