An Ancient Jar May Hold the Secret to the Location of a Biblical City

Aram or Israel?

In the 19th century, archaeologists identified a tell (a mound marking the remains of an ancient settlement) in what is now Israel’s northeastern corner as the biblical Abel Beth Maacah. At some points, the book of Samuel seems to imply that this was an Israelite city, at others, an Aramean one. Excavations are still ongoing at the site, and researchers recently made a significant discovery that sheds light on the question of which kingdom it belonged to. Jonathan Laden explains:
