Canada Is Failing to Come to Grips with Anti-Semitic Violence

Violent radicalism and liberal complacency.

On Monday, a twenty-five-year-old Canadian opened fire in a Jewish neighborhood of Montreal, killing a Muslim policeman. Rabbi Michael (Moshe) Mizrahi was also killed, although it is not clear if he was felled by the gunman or, inadvertently, by police returning fire. What is clear—despite some pussyfooting by the press and the authorities—is that the perpetrator was motivated by left-wing anti-Semitism. He said so straightforwardly in a manifesto he circulated before going on his murderous spree, which calls for revolution against Jews and capitalism.
