Beginning on October 7 itself, a team of pathologists and forensic scientists, led by Chen Kugel, were assembled to begin the gruesome task of identifying the bodies of the victims. Kugel and his colleagues found themselves facing other duties as well, which included documenting Hamas’s crimes, confirming the deaths of hostages, and identifying the body of Yahya Sinwar.
