If putting military and diplomatic pressure on Hamas is what Washington should be doing, what should Jerusalem be doing? That question came into stark relief yesterday, when Defense Minister Yoav Gallant publicly lambasted Benjamin Netanyahu—a member of his own party—for refusing to put forward a postwar plan for Gaza. By not doing so, Gallant argued, the prime minister is making it difficult for the IDF to keep Hamas out of areas of Gaza where it has already been defeated, while stressing relations with the U.S. Gallant, moreover, rejected both Israeli military and civilian control of the Strip, which yields few tenable options.
