Thanks to American pressure.
Today, the Iraqi prime minister Ali al-Zaidi is expected to arrive in Washington to meet with President Trump. Zaidi has set September 30 as the date by which all his country’s militias must disarm, a decree aimed at a powerful network of Iranian proxies. Beginning last month, Baghdad also conducted a widespread crackdown on corruption, arresting dozens of government officials. Amine Ayoub writes:
