Is Turkey Emerging as the Biggest Threat to Israel, or as an Indispensable Ally?

A debate.

Turkey is a member of NATO that hosts senior Hamas operatives, seems to be playing both sides of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, has supported various jihadist groups in Syria, and has a president who recently threatened to invade Israel. But Turkey also played a key role in the fall of Bashar al-Assad, and is likely to have considerable influence over the country in the future. So does this make Ankara a necessary if problematic ally of Israel, or a dangerous rising power that will fill the vacuum left by Iran and create new threats? Michael Doran and Dan Schueftan debate this question, one that harks back to a series of articles published in Mosaic in 2022. (Moderated by Gadi Taub. Video, 77 minutes.
