The best possible outcome of the current war would be the complete collapse of the Iranian regime. I have in the past few days seen reports of Iranians taking to the streets, of chants of “Death to Khamenei,” and of a major prison break. For the time being, these stories should be taken with a grain of salt; even if they are true, it would be too easy to read too much into them. But there is little doubt that very large numbers of Iranians despise their regime, and are happy to see its governing apparatus demolished piece by piece. Will the Israeli campaign lead to the downfall and overthrow of the Islamic Republic?
