A lazy and flawed analogy.
A new talking point has emerged in recent weeks among anti-Israel activists: Russia is subjecting Ukraine to the same sort of cruel and aggressive behavior to which the Jewish state has, for years, subjected the Palestinians. Thus, the argument goes, Palestinians deserve the same global outpouring of sympathy as Ukrainians and, moreover, the broad coalition of countries imposing tough sanctions on Russia should be doing the same to Israel. But that will never happen, writes Haviv Rettig Gur, and it’s not only because of the clear moral and factual differences between the two conflicts:
