In the wake of the slaughter of Jews in Australia, much of the anti-Israel left launched into a combination of false piety (“we condemn this awful anti-Semitism that we have worked to foster!”), finger-pointing (“It’s Netanyahu’s fault!”), or indignation (“How dare Zionists blame this on the pro-Palestine movement!”). A few went to uglier places still, implying in veiled terms that the Jews deserved it or labeling it a “false flag.” In the last position, they were joined by a segment of the American far right, which, by this point, should not be surprising.
