Doing business in the settlements isn't illegal.
Last week, the French telecommunications company Orange announced plans to sever its brand-licensing agreement with the Israeli firm Partner. Although the CEO of Orange insisted that the decision had nothing to do with politics, the French ambassador to the U.S. took to Twitter to announce that Israel’s “settlement policy . . . is illegal” and therefore it “is illegal to contribute to it in any way.” Eugene Kontorovich points to the flaws in this legal reasoning:
