Yesterday, four Israeli soldiers were killed by an explosive device in the city of Jabaliya in northern Gaza, where the IDF has been engaged in intense operations in the last several days. It’s difficult to determine from publicly available information why this area has become the focus of the fighting, but some have speculated that Israel is trying to implement a version of what’s become known as the “generals’ plan,” put forward several months ago by a group of retired officers critical of the current strategy. Chief among them was Giora Eiland, who explains this proposal and its military, moral, and legal rationale in conversation with John Hannah. (Video, 63 minutes.)
