The Grotesque Assault on Prayer after the Slaughter of Praying Children

In defense of “thoughts and prayers.”

Among the many horrors of the recent attack on a Catholic school in Minneapolis—in which two children were murdered and eighteen others injured—is the fact that it happened while these young students were at prayer. Yet, perversely, several American public figures responded with condemnations of prayer itself. Jen Psaki, President Biden’s former press secretary, for instance, wrote: “Prayers does not [sic] end school shootings. Prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers.”
