The Largest-Ever Collection of Ancient Dice Discovered in Jerusalem

A window on how Roman soldiers relaxed.

The Talmud mentions dice-playing as one of the activities that disqualify a person from giving testimony in court, although there is some debate about whether this applies to someone who indulges in an occasional craps game or only to the professional gambler. But this question wouldn’t have mattered to the owners of the 35 dice found in the vicinity of the Western Wall, who were probably Roman soldiers stationed in Jerusalem after the destruction of the Second Temple.
