The Palestinian Cause Isn’t Really about Palestinians

A clearinghouse for diverse interests and visions, rather than an actual political endeavor.

The Board of Peace—founded by the U.S., given official status by the UN, formally chaired by Donald Trump, and led by Tony Blair—purportedly seeks to turn the Gaza Strip into a Riviera on the Mediterranean. To Hussein Aboubakr Mansour, such a scheme is but another example of the Palestinian cause being used as a means to advance unrelated ends. In conversation with Russ Roberts, Mansour explains how Arab states, Western academics, international NGOs, and various other actors have used the Israel-Palestinian conflict to pursue distinct aims, often with terrible consequences for both Israelis and Palestinians. (Audio, 88 minutes.)
