What Israel’s Two-Year War Means for Jewish State’s Future

And a haredi leader joins the IDF.

For better or for worse, the after-effects of the October 7 attacks, and the two-year war that followed, will be felt far beyond the gyrations of Israeli politics or even the latest movements in the U.S.-Israel relationship. Each coming from a very different perspective, the American diplomat and foreign-policy expert Elliott Abrams, the Anglo-Jewish intellectual Melanie Phillips, and the Israeli haredi activist and thinker Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer examine the war’s meaning for Israel and the Jewish people. The discussion, moderated by Jonathan Silver, concludes with Pfeffer—after years of writing and speaking about the question of haredi conscription in the IDF—announcing that he has enlisted.
