For several years, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia ran parallel strategies in Yemen, as both sought to oppose the Iran-backed Houthis that have taken over a large segment of the country. The Saudis supported the pre-civil-war government; the UAE the Southern Transitional Council (STC) centered in the Hadhramaut region.
