Why Israel Shouldn’t Be (Too) Worried about Egypt

Egypt has the largest, and perhaps the most powerful, military in the Arab world, if not in all of Africa. Since the current Gaza war began, it has also been engaged in a major buildup of its forces in the Sinai Peninsula, exceeding the limits set forth in its peace treaty with Israel. In addition, Egypt has installed a large and imposing fence along the border to stop any Gazans—whether civilian refugees or Hamas operatives—from entering into its territory.
