The Canadian Armed Forces recently issued instructions to military chaplains requiring them to substitute “spiritual reflections” for prayers and religious rituals during public ceremonies. These reflections are to be religiously neutral, inclusive addresses that “nurture resilience by fostering meaning” and “reflect upon lessons learned, beliefs, values, and experiences to inspire gratitude, remembrance, hope, and integrity.” Girma Bekele writes that the Canadian government has, in the name of inclusivity, eroded the very things it’s attempting to respect:
