Recently Unveiled Photos Show Sukkot in Israel in the 1950s and 1960s

Religious life in a younger, poorer, Jewish state.

In honor of Sukkot, the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) released a series of photographs of holiday celebrations in Israel in the 1950s and 1960s. The pictures show a hasidic Jew holding the Four Species in a sukkah; large crowds of families and children watching a dance performance; a children’s parade in Jerusalem; and a scene from Jerusalem’s lively Four Species market in 1967.
