In general, I tend to prefer it when rabbis keep politics out of their sermons, even when their political opinions align with mine. But there is a time and a place for everything, and here Elliot Cosgrove, rabbi of one of New York City’s most prominent Conservative synagogues, demonstrates how this can be done right when the matter is urgent. He explains the threat posed to American Jews by Zohran Mamdani, why Mamdani’s attempts to assuage Jewish voters fall so woefully short, and what Jews of good conscience can do to persuade their coreligionists—nearly half of whom are expected to vote for Mamdani—to oppose him.
