One can only hope that Vice-President J.D. Vance capably represented U.S. interests when meeting with Iranian negotiators yesterday. But his statement last week, in which he complained about Israeli cabinet members “attacking the only powerful ally that [they] have anywhere left in the entire world” is damaging regardless. First, those ministers are only doing precisely what Vance himself is doing: making public statements that they believe will serve them well in the upcoming election. Second, as Abe Greenwald writes:
