Jerusalem Churches’ Flawed Condemnation of Chistian Zionism
Jews were invoked in a fight that wasn’t about them.
On January 17, a statement attacking Christian Zionists, purportedly endorsed by the heads of several Jerusalem churches, circulated on the Internet. It was swiftly seized upon by Christian Israel-haters abroad, and earned condemnation from Ambassador Mike Huckabee. Yet not everything about the statement was as it seemed—most importantly, it did not have the imprimatur of the local Catholic hierarchy. Gavin D’Costa comments:
