During the Iraq war, the American popular imagination began to see private military contractors as nefarious by default. But the reality is a bit different. Elliott Abrams, Eric Edelman, and Rena Gabber note that, in truth, they have “a strong track record,” and in many cases have “reliably, responsibly, and effectively supported American military operations” and trained security forces.
