Last week, Zohran Mamdani met with a group of rabbis to discus their concerns about growing threats to New York City’s Jews. While City Hall claimed that the invitees were chosen to reflect “the diversity of New York’s Jewish community,” it seems clear that an effort was made to avoid those rabbis likely to be most critical of the mayor. The New York Board of Rabbis, which usually arranges such meetings, was not consulted. Nevertheless, reports suggest that the overall message to the mayor was one of dismay at his rhetoric and inaction.
