Synagogues Are Not Violating International Law, and American Mayors Shouldn’t Be Saying Otherwise

Are Jews who don’t toe the line entitled to the protection of the law?

Twice this month, a group called Al-Awda assembled mobs outside of New York City synagogues—intimidating those trying to enter, chanting terrorist slogans, and physically assaulting at least one person. As a pretext, it used events being held at the synagogues for those interested in purchasing property in Israel. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has expressed mild disapproval of the demonstrations, while also condemning the synagogues for supporting the “violation of international law.” Tal Fortgang explains that the claim that the demonstrators are standing up for international law is “transparently disingenuous.”
