In 2007, the Israeli air force destroyed a Syrian nuclear reactor before it became operational. On Tuesday, the current government in Damascus announced that—following year-long secret negotiations with the U.S. and Israel—it has agreed to allow international inspectors to remove remaining nuclear materials from the country. This is welcome news, writes Andrea Stricker, but there remains more to be done:
