The Latest Proposal for Disarming Hamas Might Be Israel’s Best Bet

Agreements have netted Israel near-term gains even with the most extreme Islamists.

While the Israeli government has rejected the latest proposal set forth by the U.S.-backed Board of Peace for the (partial) disarmament of Hamas and the eventual withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza, negotiations are still ongoing with the hope of finding a compromise. Amit Segal sat down to discuss the proposal with the Board’s director-general, the Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov, who has many years of experience with the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
