Nearly half the states in the union have adopted their own economic sanctions on Iran, which they are explicitly permitted to do by Congress’s 2010 Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act (CISADA). The Obama administration is now sending letters to all 50 governors asking them to undo any such sanctions. Eugene Kontorovich discusses what would happen if the federal government attempts to follow up these requests with litigation:
