A Liberal Argument for Interventionism Ignores the Good America Has Already Done

 Rather than waging a vendetta against Muslims, the U.S. has routinely protected them.

In his book The Case for American Power, the political scientist and Washington Post columnist Shadi Hamid sets forth his own version of liberal internationalism: that the U.S. should use its might as a force for good in the world, in keeping with its own interests. For Hamid, the conclusion is the result of a move away from some of the left-liberal assumptions of his younger self. Hamid, it’s worth noting, is a reflexive, but not an obsessive, Israel-hater, who has played a role in disseminating the fantastical notion that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.
