Since the 2024 election, Sara Yael Hirschhorn notes, numerous “progressive activists and Democratic-adjacent commentators leaned into the explanation” that the Biden-Harris administration had alienated potential voters by supporting Israel when it was attacked by Hamas and other members of the Iran-backed “axis of resistance.” A few non-professional moderates, by contrast, may have wondered if the Democratic brand was tarnished by association with left-wing protesters trashing campus buildings and waving Hamas and Hizballah flags.
