The IDF is handing over a few villages to the Lebanese army.
Yesterday, the U.S. State Department announced that the IDF is withdrawing from three villages in southern Lebanon, in preparation for the Lebanese military to take over. This will be the first experiment with the “pilot zones” mandated by the June 26 trilateral framework concluded by Beirut, Jerusalem, and Washington. As Matthew Levitt explains in his analysis of the agreement, the Lebanese military isn’t expected to remove Hizballah from these villages, but to keep it from returning after the IDF has cleared them.
