On Tuesday, James Woolsey, who served as undersecretary of the navy from 1977 to 1979 and director of the CIA from 1993 to 1995, died at the age of eighty-four. He was a friend of Israel and the Jewish people, and an American patriot dedicated to the cause of freedom. Although much has changed since he wrote the following in 2007, it’s striking how much hasn’t:
