Israel has many political parties, including three haredi ones: the Sephardi Shas (also supported by many non-haredi Sephardim), the non-hasidic Ashkenazi Degel HaTorah, and the hasidic Agudat Yisrael—with the latter two usually entering elections together on the United Torah Judaism slate. But, in advance of the upcoming elections, a new one has emerged, ha-Tsibur ha-Haredi (the Haredi Public). Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer explains to Aylana Meisel-Diament why he has chosen to support this new party, and to challenge his community’s status quo. (Video, 39 minutes.
