Last week a Church of England synod voted to “hear”—a formal term denoting soft endorsement—a manifesto accusing Israel of genocide along with a variety of other libels. A.J. Nolte, Jules Gomes, and Gerald McDermott note that not one bishop voted against the motion. They also point to an irony: these anti-Israel sentiments, couched in the language of anti-colonialism and third worldism, are not at all shared by the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches—which broke with the mother church in 2023. Members of some of these churches, perhaps, have other things to worry about:
