The Iranian Empire Is Collapsing

How to prevent a recovery.

Since some point in the 2000s, Iran’s star was on the rise. Chaos in Iraq, Yemen, and even Syria (already a close ally), and a weak state in Lebanon allowed it to expand its influence in these countries. It also created alliances in Africa and Gaza, and began to threaten Jordan and the Gulf States, while the 2015 nuclear deal revived its economic prospects. That started to change when Israel crippled Hizballah, Iran’s most powerful proxy, and then began destroying Iranian nuclear facilities, with U.S. help. Elliott Abrams writes:
