Will Cairo seize the moment?
On October 13, representatives of 30 countries met in Sharm el-Sheikh to solidify and express their support for the U.S.-backed deal that secured the release of Israeli hostages, the freeing of Palestinian terrorists, and the withdrawal of the IDF to agreed-upon lines in Gaza. The leaders of just four of these states signed the formal statement that came out of the summit: the U.S., Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt. Yesterday and the day before, this newsletter examined the roles, respectively, of the two most problematic of these, namely Qatar and Turkey. Today, let’s look at the hopefully more constructive part that Egypt might play.
